Henry P. Clough Computer Lab

Henry P. Clough Computer Lab

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I hope that this can be a place for interactive communication for both parents and students. It is my goal to share news about advances in technology, updates about activities in our technology classroom, as well as great websites that I may come across. I also hope however, that as parents and students you will share with me websites and/or software and hardware that you are familiar with and know that kids love!

As you come across new tech tools, please use this as a place to share! I will also be posting sites, videos, and articles I think you and your child may enjoy.

I’m looking forward to another fantastic school year and as always working as partners to advance our children in the 21st century. Remember to visit my website for further information about our computer lab at the Henry P. Clough Elementary School.

Great First Day of School at Clough!

Today was a great first day back to school! It was wonderful to see all those smiling faces and so many students excited about technology at Clough! This year it's a privilege to be able to teacher students in kindergarten and grade 1, as well as all the other grade levels. This year will be filled with exploring applications such as Kid Pix 3D, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Publisher. We will also talk a lot about Internet safety and create Internet research based projects. Typing will also be a focus especially in grade 3!

Thank you!

Thank you for such an amazing year! I am so fortunate to have such enthusiastic students that enjoy coming to technology class and who demonstrate such ambition for learning. I am also most fortunate to have supportive parents. On that note, I wish to publicly thank the Clough PTO for the money they raised to put toward technology at the Henry P. Clough School; your commitment to education is amazing!
This past school year has truly been fantastic. I hope many of you will practice what you learned over the summer as well as share you skills to help other. I would also like to wish my fourth graders the best of luck as they enter middle school; make me proud! As for my current students, I'm looking forward to teaching you all but am especially excited about taking on Kindergarten and grade 1! I can’t wait to explore the computer lab with you; we are going to have so much fun!

May you all have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you in the fall!

What Have We Been Up To?

Over the past month students in grades 2,3 and 4 have been participating in lessons revolving around Internet Safety. Students may have come home talking about a character named Clicky. Clicky is our Internet friend that is teaching us how to be safe online. Students are identifying their trusted adults, learning about the dangers that are lurking on the Internet and who to turn to or what to do when things make them feel sad, uncomfortable or confused. To learn more about our Internet Safety lessons, please visit www.netsmartz.org.

SRI and SMI Testing - Grades 2, 3 and 4

During the past two weeks, students in grades 2, 3 and 4 have been participating in the SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) test and the SMI (Scholastic Math Inventory) test. These tests are used by our teaching staff to monitor a child's progress in both math and reading throughout the course of the school year. Students participate in these tests 3 times a year and they are done on the computer to help student also prepare for future computerized tests. If  you would like to learn more about the tests themselves, please click on the links below. If you have specific questions about the test results, please contact your child's teacher directly.
